Grading, Re-sloping & Drainage

Re-sloping and regrading that move water away from the house instead of into it.

The Straight Story

Water goes where the ground tells it — we change what the ground says

Standing water in the yard, a soggy strip that never dries, mulch that washes out of the beds, damp coming through the basement wall — those are all the same problem wearing different clothes: the ground is pitched the wrong way. Louisville's clay makes it worse, because water that can't soak in has to go somewhere, and it follows the grade.

Grading work is the least glamorous thing we do and the most consequential. We re-slope so water moves away from the foundation, fill and shape low spots that pond, and cut swales that give runoff a deliberate path instead of letting it choose its own. Done right, the fix is invisible — the yard just works.

It's also the foundation under everything else. Patios, walls, sod, and drives all last longer on ground that drains — which is why grading questions are part of every estimate we run, whatever the project.

How It Goes

Four steps, no surprises

Start Step One
  1. 01

    We come look

A free on-site visit. We walk the yard, take grades and measurements, and talk through what's actually worth doing.

  2. 02

    Scope & number

A written scope with materials, base depth, and drainage spelled out — and one honest price, not a range.

  3. 03

    We build it

Excavation, compaction, base, then finish work. Daniel is on site running the job, not managing it by phone.

  4. 04

    We keep it up

Optional weekly maintenance so the beds, edges, and lawn look the way they did the week we finished.

Questions

Asked on most estimates

Straight answers up front — and anything we missed gets answered on the free on-site visit.

How do I know if my yard needs regrading?

Watch it during a hard rain. Water pooling against the house, standing more than a day in the yard, or cutting channels through beds are all grade problems — and all fixable.

Will regrading wreck my existing lawn?

The work area gets disturbed — there's no honest way around that. We re-establish it with seed or sod as part of the scope, so you end up with better grass on better grade.

Do you install French drains?

Where subsurface drainage is the right tool, yes — but a surprising share of 'drainage problems' are really surface-grade problems that a swale or re-slope fixes for less. We diagnose before we prescribe.
